I think Slendy is a new take on a very old story
I was a bit confused about all these random ‘Slendy Blogs’ that turned up a few years ago. Not because of the scary aspect of the story, but because I had a strange feeling that I’d heard this all before. It reminded me of some of the old Dreamtime lessons I grew up with, in particular, the stories of the Quinkins.
Quinkins are not just one type of spirit/monster/protector. There are many, many different type of quinkins, but the strange thin ones stuck in my mind. Not because of their scary nature - quite the opposite. These thin quinkins are actually the nice ones.
It’s actually the shorter, rounder ones that are the troublemakers.
I did a bit of back tracking, and found out the the story of the Slender Man did actually originate from Western Australia, of all places. Quinkin sightings are still a fairly common thing, but out west it’s less cause for hysteria. When I was little, I thought it was normal to see something following you in the bush, just out the corner of your eye. A tall, thin man who blended in with the trees so well your eyes could never quite track him.
I think the Slender Man is just a warped version of a much, much older story.
