To everyone bitching about how those damned dirty immigrants are trying to ruin ANZAC Day ...
Stop reading the Daily Telegraph.
And watching Today Tonight … or ACA.
It’s the usual bullshit toted out at this time of year to a high receptive and volatile audience, who like to use what should be a somber day of remembrance to spout their own narrow minded views, somehow justifying it by saying ‘that’s what the Diggers sacrificed their lives for’.
Over a million Australians went to war in WW1 alone. You seriously think you can speak for every single one of them as a whole, and not the individual men and women they were?
If you use the Anzac’s name and legend to justify anger, hate and fear to everyone who ‘doesn’t belong’ … then you have no fucking idea what the Anzacs were about, do you?
…it’s the sudden abundance of “ANZAC Day Eve” events at pubs.
ANZAC Day is one of the only important days on the Australian calendar, for the reason that it is the day in which we commemorate all those men and women who have fought and who have died in the service of our country.
Indigenous Australians couldn’t marry outside of their race.
All these were Australian laws that are these days considers barbaric and ridiculous. Until all members of Australian society can be recognised and acknowledged, then we are not a full and advanced country.
Advance Australia Fair, not Hold Australia In The Past.
Two issues in the past fortnight have shown how little progress we’ve made regarding sexism in public life. Women are expected to by younger, slimmer, have better skin and be able to wear six-inch heels in style. But that’s just one small element. The frustrating fact remains that women are judged by their appearance more than men, particularly women in prominent positions.
Just saw a massive billboard on William St, Sydney, saying that the release date is going to be 25th April. Now, most people would be thrilled that we get an early release date - this is an uncommon occurrence - but I’m just focused that it’s on ANZAC Day. I usually take ANZAC Day quite seriously for various reasons and I just find it a bit odd. Also, it’s a Wednesday, when our films are released on Thursdays.
Probably means absolutely nothing and no-one else will really care, but I’m just wondering about all that - and maybe I need glasses.
But it’s a massive billboard in the CBD … billboards never lie.
